Data Doughnut

What is Data Doughnut?

Data Doughnut lines up public U.S. government data — Census, Medicare, HUD, FEMA, NOAA, Labor, USDA, FCC, Congress and more — by place and by facility, so people who work with places can answer questions without stitching dozens of agency files together. It's for health care operators and lenders, site selectors, rural developers, disaster planners, and policy teams. We're a small company near Sikeston, Missouri.

The problem it solves

Public data is free but scattered. A county's people are at the Census Bureau, its nursing homes at Medicare, its flood history at FEMA and NOAA, its jobs at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, its housing at HUD, its internet at the FCC, and its lawmakers in Congress's records — each with its own codes, years, and file formats. We gather those sources, clean them, and connect them by place (state, county, ZIP, metro, census tract) and by facility (Medicare provider numbers, HUD property IDs), so one question gets one answer with every source named.

Who it's for

People who work with places: nursing home and hospital operators, health care lenders and buyers, site selectors and franchise teams, rural developers and grant writers, disaster planners, and policy and government-affairs teams.

How it's organized: desks

Desks first, catalog second. Each desk is a job (CareSite Ops, Health Care Loans & Sales, Health Markets, Region Brief, Business & Site Planning, Disaster Readiness, Rural Development, Legislative) with its own pages; the catalog lists every public source with its agency, years, and columns.

Where the data comes from

318 public sources from agencies including Census Bureau, Medicare (CMS), HUD, FEMA, NOAA, Bureau of Labor Statistics, USDA, FCC, HRSA, CDC, FDIC, Congress. Every number on a page names its source and year. The data catalog lists every source with its agency, years, geography, and columns, with a free preview of each.

Agency facts and our estimates

Agency facts are the doughnut. Anything we compute — risk scores, ZIP fit, 10-year business and job estimates, place types and market types, closed-hospital lists, watch flags — is frosting: our reading of the facts, labeled as ours. Pages mark which is which, so you always know what came straight from an agency.
