About Data Doughnut
The government collects a lot of good information about the places we live and work. It's spread across dozens of agencies and hard to line up. We line it up for you.
Why we built this
We've spent our careers in IT, on projects that kept coming back to the same questions: where things are, what they're doing, and what could go wrong. Which cell towers overlap when two phone companies merge? Where is it safe to build a data center? Where should a new factory go? How do schooling and internet access line up with chronic illness? And from our time in the Guard and Reserve: who is in harm's way when a disaster hits, and how do you plan for it?
The answers were in public data every time. But putting it together took weeks, and it never fit in one spreadsheet. Data Doughnut is the tool we wanted on every one of those projects.
Why “Data Doughnut”?
A doughnut is a doughnut: the same good base every time. Public data is like that. What makes it even better is what you add. We add the joins that line up a county across every source, plain words, and a few scores of our own. And we always tell you which part is the doughnut and which part is our frosting.
Who we are
Data Doughnut is based just outside Sikeston, Missouri. We're a small team of data people with long careers in IT, and we'd rather show you our sources than ask you to trust us. Questions or ideas? Write to us at support@datadoughnut.com.
Who it’s for
Planners and economic developers, lenders, hospital and nursing home operators, site selectors, emergency managers, and grant writers. Each desk is built around one of those jobs.
