Terms of Service
Effective date: September 27, 2026 · Applies to Data Doughnut, datadoughnut.com, and our AI and spreadsheet connections
These terms are the agreement between you and Data Doughnut (“Data Doughnut,” “we,” “us”). We’ve kept them in plain language. Please read them — by creating an account, starting a trial, or using the service, you agree to them.

1. Who can use Data Doughnut
Data Doughnut is a business product. You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. If you use it for a company or other organization, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
2. The service
Data Doughnut brings public data together into desks — sets of pages, maps, and reports for particular kinds of work — at a Level that sets what you can do: read (Level 1), also ask questions in plain English (Level 2), and also connect AI assistants and spreadsheets (Level 3). Our public Data Catalog is free to browse.
We improve the service all the time. We may add, change, or retire pages, desks, data sources, and features. If we remove something central to a desk you pay for, we’ll tell you ahead of time when we reasonably can.
3. Your account
- Give us accurate sign-up information and keep it current.
- Keep your password, sign-in, AI access keys, and spreadsheet links private. Each account is for one person — please don’t share it. You’re responsible for activity under your account, keys, and links.
- Tell us right away at support@datadoughnut.com if you think someone else has used your account or a key; we’ll help shut it off.
- Invite codes are for the person or organization they were given to.
4. Plans, trials, and billing
Prices and plans
Plans are priced by Level and number of desks, billed monthly or yearly, as shown on our Pricing page when you buy. Prices are in U.S. dollars.
Free trial
New plans include a 7-day free trial, once per person. We collect a payment method when the trial starts. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your plan starts and your payment method is charged automatically for the plan you chose.
Automatic renewal
Plans renew automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, and your payment method is charged for the next period, until you cancel. You can cancel any time from Manage billing on your Account page; your access continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you won’t be charged again.
Who processes payments; taxes
Purchases are processed by Stripe through its Link service, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record for your purchase and calculates and collects any sales tax, VAT, or similar tax that applies. Link’s and Stripe’s terms also apply to the payment itself. We don’t receive or store your full card number.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, we and our payment partner will retry it and remind you. If it isn’t fixed within 7 days, access to your desks is paused until payment goes through. Your account and saved work are kept while paused.
Price changes
We may change prices. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before a new price applies to your plan, and it will take effect at your next renewal after the notice period. If you don’t want the new price, cancel before then.
Changing plans
If you move to a higher Level or more desks mid-period, the difference is charged prorated. Moves to a lower plan take effect as described when you make the change.
Refunds
Payments are non-refundable, including for partly used periods, except where the law requires otherwise. If we charged you in error, or a problem on our side kept you from using the service, contact us and we’ll make it right, which may include a refund or credit.
Complimentary and invoiced accounts
Some accounts are provided at no charge or billed by separate agreement. If you have a separate written agreement with us, it controls where it differs from these terms.
5. About the data
- Most of what we show comes from public U.S. government sources (and OpenStreetMap where noted). We present it as the agencies publish it, organized and explained. Source data can contain errors, gaps, or delays, and we may make mistakes combining or explaining it.
- Answers to questions you ask in plain English are generated automatically from our data and may be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important against the sources we cite.
- Data Doughnut is information, not professional advice. It isn’t legal, financial, investment, lending, tax, medical, or engineering advice. You’re responsible for decisions you make with it; verify important facts before relying on them.
6. How you may use the service
While your plan is active, you may use Data Doughnut, and what you view, export, or pull into your tools at your Level, for your own business purposes — including in your analysis, reports, and presentations to clients and colleagues.
You agree not to:
- resell, rent, or give others access to the service, your account, keys, or links, or offer it as part of a competing data product;
- copy or extract our pages, compilations, or data in bulk to recreate or replace the service, or use automated tools to scrape it beyond the exports and connections your plan includes;
- get around access limits, Levels, or security, or try to reach desks, accounts, or data you don’t have;
- overload, disrupt, probe, or attack the service;
- use the service to break the law or anyone’s rights, or to try to identify, locate, or harm individuals.
Nothing here limits your right to get public data directly from the government agencies that publish it.
7. What’s ours and what’s yours
The service — our software, design, page layouts, explanations, names and logos, and the way we select, combine, and present data — belongs to us and our licensors; these terms don’t transfer it to you. Public government data remains public. Anything you bring into your own tools stays yours. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it. We don’t sell your personal information.
9. Suspending or ending access
You can stop using Data Doughnut and cancel your plan at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, don’t pay, or put the service or other people at risk; we’ll tell you why when we reasonably can. We may also discontinue the service, and if we do we’ll refund any prepaid amount for the time you won’t get. Sections 5, 7, and 10 through 12 continue after access ends.
10. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the service and all data are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, and non-infringement. We don’t promise the service will always be available, error-free, or current.
11. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows: (a) neither side is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising from these terms or the service; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
You agree to cover us for claims by others arising from your breaking these terms or misusing the service.
12. Disputes and governing law
If something goes wrong, please contact us first — most problems are solved quickly that way. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Missouri, which both sides agree to.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll change the effective date above, and for material changes we’ll give notice on the site or by email at least 30 days before they apply to your current plan. If you keep using the service after changes take effect, you accept them; if you don’t agree, cancel before then.
These terms, our Privacy Policy, and any separate written agreement with you are the whole agreement about the service. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given it up. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them with our business.
